Results of Parents Survey

Note from the team

A huge thank-you for your rapid response to this critical survey. We are so pleased with both the response rate (86%) and the positivity conveyed.

So far, 98 pupils’ worth of responses have been collected. The headline is that 93% of you are considering staying – either as a firm commitment, a commitment with further information, or as someone who is understandably making contingency with other applications but would stay if given the right assurances.

This information gives us clear direction on the appetite for an independent Kingscourt and the areas of concern that require further investigation and clarification.

As communicated, our intention is to address as many of those concerns as is reasonable in our meeting on Friday 9th May at 3pm.

If Kingscourt can be shown as sustainable,

parents will keep their children here

The big question: What are your plans for 2025?

Answer: >90% are committed or considering

To our great relief as a team, only 5% have decided to exit regardless of any progress we make in a transfer of ownership. We completely understand, if not agree with, the desire of some parents for more information and thank them for their patience while we navigate the hurdles of this difficult but worthwhile transition. More to follow, starting at our meeting this Friday 9th May.

What Factors are Influencing your Decision

Answer: Clear concerns around the long-term viability of the school, and pressure to find places elsewhere

To no great surprise, parents are most concerned about the long-term sustainability of Kingscourt. Availability of places and the lack of local provision is also a clear concern. Some cite uncertainty around the wraparound provision and the quality of academic provision going forward.

What was the general sentiment?

Answer: if KC can be shown as sustainable, parents will keep their children here

Positivity

Reservations

  • Level of commitment to KC is very high
  • Strong desire to keep children at KC and avoid disruption at any cost
  • General sense that people will not move their children until all options to continue have been exhausted
  • Those in the later years will stay as long as the base commitment is to stay open until end of next academic year
  • Most of those prepared to discuss their registrations for other schools are clear that they will stay if KC can continue
  • Huge availability of professional skills across the parent group, as well as the willingness to apply them
  • Concerns that large fee increases will be required
  • Concerns that the overall style/ethos of the school will need to change to ensure longer-term stability
  • Concerns that we may lose key teaching staff
  • A need to understand the sentiment of other parents ASAP
