Minutes of steering group meeting, 2nd May 2025
Dear fellow parents,
This morning a committee of Kingscourt parents met in person. Following that meeting we wanted to update you all on the progress made in the four days since we all received the news on the potential future for our school.
At the meeting we agreed an approach which will combine developing a plan to continue education at Kingscourt until at least July 2026 alongside the essential work to develop a design to secure our school’s longer term future. We will draw on the wide range of experience, skills, knowledge and contacts amongst the parent body.
We have a number of positive engagements, including telephone and face to face meetings with the Chief Financial Officer of Cognita. We are making progress in gaining an understanding of the current status and financial position of the school, which will be a key component in determining how we can develop a plan to continue to deliver education into 2026 and beyond. Cognita have been cooperative and forward leaning in our engagement with them and we hope this approach will continue.
Should the school leave the Cognita group, we have engaged as a collective with other local independent schools. Two schools have agreed to take forward consideration of how they could develop a partnership with Kingscourt, including meeting with representatives of the parent committee.
We recognise that time is short to develop these proposals and that as parents we all want to act to secure the best possible education for our children. The experience of the past week has illustrated what a close knit and enthusiastic community exists around Kingscourt. The positives of engagement with Cognita and other local schools, indicates that there is more to do to develop a future for our school. We ask that you stick with us and with Kingscourt in the days ahead.
We ask you continue to hold off making any concrete decisions until Friday at the earliest and thank you for your continued faith in the future of Kingscourt.
